Overview
Qiyas is an enterprise platform built for Saudi Arabia's Digital Government Authority to measure digital transformation maturity across more than 230 government entities.
Government entities upload documents that demonstrate compliance with the authority's standards. Auditors and experts then review and score them, producing a result that reflects each entity's digital maturity level.
I joined while development was already underway and helped ship many of the platform's features, complete core interfaces, and get the product to production on schedule.

The Challenge
By the time I joined, work had already started — but the deadline was closing in, and many features were still unfinished.
The challenge was navigating complex business rules and multiple review workflows without slowing delivery toward production.
Requirements also kept shifting through stakeholder meetings, which meant building flexible, scalable interfaces that stayed stable and usable as the product evolved.

My Role
I helped finish and launch the platform, taking on many of the features users rely on today, including:
- Building and delivering many production-ready features within the project timeline.
- Helping ship the platform to production.
- Building role-specific dashboards for auditors, experts, and system admins inside the Digital Government Authority.
- Turning complex business rules into clear, usable interfaces.
- Joining ongoing requirements sessions with stakeholders to deepen my understanding of the business domain.
- Improving server-state management with TanStack Query through caching and fewer unnecessary requests.
- Working closely with the backend team so the UI stayed aligned as requirements changed mid-build.
My role wasn't limited to a single screen or feature. I worked across many features and flows throughout the platform — learning the assessment logic, understanding each role's needs, and turning shifting requirements into workable solutions.

Process

Discovery
I joined stakeholder requirement sessions to understand how government entities are assessed, how document review cycles work, and how permissions differ across user roles.

Planning
We structured the system into role-based workflows, prioritizing clarity despite complex business logic, and sequencing the features needed to reach production.

Development
We built many features with React, Next.js, and TypeScript — including entity pages, review and scoring interfaces, and role-specific dashboards — with TanStack Query handling server state efficiently.

Testing
Before launch, we validated:
- Document upload and review flows.
- Role-based permissions.
- Review workflow correctness.
- Usability across core screens.
- Alignment with final stakeholder requirements.

Launch
Features shipped gradually into production until the platform included much of what we had built during my time on the project — and went live for assessing more than 230 Saudi government entities.

Features
Multi-role dashboards
I built dashboards tailored to each role so auditors, experts, and system admins each got an experience matched to their responsibilities and permissions.
End-to-end digital assessment
I helped shape a full assessment journey: entities upload documents, auditors and experts review and approve them, and the system produces final assessment results.
RBAC
I built interfaces on Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) so each user only sees the pages and actions they are allowed to use.
Efficient data management
I used TanStack Query to improve caching, cut duplicate requests, and keep data in sync — which made the interfaces feel faster and more reliable.

Lessons Learned
In enterprise projects, writing code isn't the hardest part — understanding the business domain is. The better I understood stakeholder needs and how the platform worked, the better I could turn complex requirements into clear, scalable interfaces.
Working under a tight deadline also taught me to make technical decisions that are both fast and thoughtful, and to build flexible interfaces that absorb changing requirements without starting over — so the product stays sustainable over time.
